United Martial Arts Center’s Juniors Program

Ages 10 to 12

United Martial Arts Center prides itself on being the premier martial arts school in the Port Jefferson Station area for older children. Our Junior’s classes are specifically designed to meet the needs of older children as they navigate the "tween" years. We teach them how to stay focused on beneficial goals like getting good grades, responsibility, and a maintaining a positive self‑image, while they learn more advanced methods of self defense, how to deal with bullying, as well as how to avoid negative peer pressure! This Program leads directly into our Teen & Adult Program.

Change your child’s life!

Numerous psychological studies have found that children in the ten to twelve year old range who study martial arts, and specifically the styles taught at United Martial Arts Center, have an increased sense of responsibility, are more reluctant to take foolish risks, and have a greater sense of self-esteem. This is why millions of parents are using martial arts to supplement their children’s education. Plus it’s just pure fun!

At this stage in their life, kids are developing mentally, physically, emotionally, and socially, and facing the challenges that go along with it. Our classes for children and young teens are designed to teach your child how to set and achieve goals, understand the importance of commitment, make positive decisions, persevere through life’s difficult challenges, and have the ability to say, “NO,” when confronted with peer pressure or bullying, whether emotional, physical or online.

Skills That Go Far Beyond Self Defense

We arm your child with the skills they need to succeed in life!

Our Juniors Program teaches practical martial arts and proven self-defense methods, but more importantly, we teach our young students how to handle the tough challenges that appear throughout their childhood. Our students learn that physical self-defense is the last resort and rarely necessary. We stress to our students that the techniques they learn in class will work, and should never be used for "showing off" or to intimidate others.

True "self-defense" starts with learning to be confident, and knowing how to negotiate and get along with others. United Martial Arts Center students learn how to avoid conflict, set and achieve goals, make responsible choices, avoid negative peer pressure, and many other important skills crucial for success in life! Put simply, United Martial Arts Center Children and Youth Program emphasizes complete physical, mental and emotional development.

Why Do We Soar Above The Rest, Breaking Records Everywhere?

We attribute this to our high-energy, exciting, fun, yet realistic classes, which includes bringing some of the best instruction in the world to our schools. Each one of our teachers is put through a rigorous training course, resulting in some of the best coaches in the world for this age group.

Our Juniors Program is the one of the most well rounded, touching on all the things that students of this age group are interested in. We leave each student walking away with the three "S's" theory; Sweating, Smiling and Striving for more. This metaphor was coined many years ago by one of the best martial arts motivators in the industry, and we have been using it ever since with outstanding results!

Each student will gain the edge in life, and grab onto the personal power which has guided hundreds of our students to become masters of their lives. Through regular, dedicated training, every student will master the emotions and behaviors that drive them, enabling them to manage their minds and bodies to achieve greater success than they ever dreamed of.

Bullying - one of the most important subjects addressed by martial arts

Whether your child is being bullied, or bullying others

Bullying hurts. It causes psychological and emotional scars that can last a lifetime. Regardless of whether your child is the victim of bullying, or the one doing it, low self esteem is usually the source, and will eventually lead to poor school performance, depression and labeling.

United Martial Arts Center has the solution. Our program builds physical, mental and emotional strength, while our students learn both self respect, and respect for others. Children who believe in themselves not only make poor targets for bullies, they learn to stand up and "find their voice." At the same time, children who were inclined towards bullying learn they don't need to intimidate others to feel self worth.

Many parents worry that martial arts may make their child more aggressive, but in reality, it's the exact opposite. Martial arts teaches children self control. Our students learn to stand up for themselves and their principles, and to respond to bullying in the most effective manner, with physical force being the last resort. The advantage to the techniques we teach is that they are totally non-violent, and are only applied in response physical aggression, ensuring that they are never used for the wrong reason. Most importantly, our students learn they can walk away from trouble with courage and authority.
